Orleans is the most popular family vacation destination on Cape Cod. The town is nestled among the spectacular beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and the tranquil coves and harbors of Cape Cod Bay and Pleasant Bay. It is known as the shopping hub of the Lower Cape. Three major shopping plazas, a wide variety of dining choices and exceptional activities for all ages make this quaint New England town a ‘must see’ for anyone visiting Cape Cod.
Orleans marks the beginning of Nauset Beach, one of the most beautiful and popular of the Cape’s beaches. Ten miles long, Nauset Beach is a wide sweep of sand bounded by high dunes. On the bay side, Skaket Beach offers calmer and warmer waters with low tide revealing a half mile of sand with salt water pools filled with tiny fish and crabs to delight the children. Rock Harbor is the center of the local fishing industry with docks full of charter boats ready to take you fishing for the big one. Sunsets over Rock Harbor are memorable with weekend steel bands creating a laid back mood for locals and tourists alike.
Orleans is home to The Academy of Performing Arts, live theatre with its own resident company.
The Cape Cod Rail Trail runs through town along an abandoned rail bed. The trail runs nearly 20 miles from Dennis to Eastham, passing by salt marshes, cranberry bogs, and ponds.
